Age 70 years at first PSA.

Now ages 77 & in excellent health. I swim in the surf or pool one kilometre  at a time & walk a lot  with my wife. We eat healthy food. My wife is an excellent cook . We laugh a lot at & with each other & Enjoy meeting people of all ages & interests.

I think we need local G. Ps. To take more interest in Prostate cancer & P S A tests.

If you are not happy with your Local G P or urologist—get another  opinion:                 

Nov 2004 PSA 27

First PSA test ever with my New local doctor. He either didn't know what a safe PSA reading should be or did not care. He referred me to a local Urologist. I had to wait until Feb 2005 to see him as he was the only one at the time.——

Biopsy revealed nothing. Bone scan clear ,Urologist had no idea what to do next

New Urologist at Southport conducted blood tests, biopsy & concluded I had Prostate cancer

with a Gleeson score of 6. Suggested I start 6 month course of Hormone tablets (Androcur)

Finished Hormone Tablets– no more for 6 months.

Urologist at Sth Port changed hormone Tablets to Cosudex Plus 2 Lucrin depot needles @ 28/7/06 & 03/11/06

Sth Port urologist-No further hormone tablets suggested-Just wait & Watch.

My local Dr-He phoned my urologist at Sth port , concerned at the rise in my PSA. Urologist said not to worry as it had been higher & he would see in Jan 2008

I phoned Dr Peter Swindle prostate urologist in Brisbane as I was concerned with my PSA reading getting too high again.

First appointment with Dr Peter Swindle in Brisbane. First impression was very good . Organised a Biopsy for me at Greenslopes & Said he knew where to find my problem.   

06/02/08 Biopsy at Green slopes.

Dr Swindle result of biopsy. My GLEESON SCORE was 9 , he said it was never 6.                    

15.02.08;  Diagnosis & Treatment

Dr Swindle consulted with Dr James MacKean Radiation oncologist at The Wesley Hospital & they suggested the best treatment for me (every case is different) was 5 weeks of low dose Radiation, followed up after 10

days with 3 Dose of high dose Radiation (Brachytherapy) with 2 needles of Zolarex  @ 3 monthly intervals before Radiation starters.

02/06/08       

Low Dose Radiation started at John Flynn Hospital after alignment tests at Dr MacKean’s surgery in Brisbane to work out what Dose strength & where to focus the Radiation Machine.                                           

13/07/08

The Wesley hospital in Brisbane for 3 doses of High Dose Radiation. Discharged on the 16/07/08 No problems with Treatment. Lovely Hospital.

Dr Swindle happy with Radiation treatment put me back on Zoladex needles every 3 months for        injections.

Dr Swindle-Very happy with treatment, No more Zoladex needles. PSA tests every 6 months & see him again in 12 months

Dr Swindle , does not want to see me again unless my PSA rises above 2. PSA with local Dr every 12 months. From now on.
